The aim of the proposal is to use the potential of the planned revitalization of Jirásek Square to the maximum extent and to create a „city dweller“ for the inhabitants of Kolín and its visitors. A place that will complement the outdoor public space with an indoor space where visitors will be able to spend their leisure time. The library is thus conceived as an open air space that will provide visitors with a pleasant environment not only for reading and learning, but also a space for meeting friends and spending free time.
The construction of any new public building always has a great responsibility towards society, which is fulfilled by the design also in terms of sustainability. Simple volumetric design, modern technology and the use of a combined timber and concrete construction system fully realise the potential of modern construction with a low carbon footprint and economic running costs for the future.
