Bridges over Sazava and Sazavka

The project brief called for a comprehensive architectural and structural design for new HSR viaducts over the Sázava and Sázavka rivers and associated structures in the section of the high-speed line between Světlá nad Sázavou and Velká Bíteš. The design comprises a 590 m viaduct over the Sázavka and a 600 m viaduct over the Sázava, with the longest spans reaching 110 m. The design respects the landscape character of the Sázava and Sázavka river valleys and their distinctive morphology, with river channels and wooded slopes. The rail alignment crosses both valleys at a sharp angle. For this reason, the design centred on the careful proportioning and balance of the bridge spans. Together, the sweeping arc of the deck’s soffit leaping from pier to pier and the slender supports in light-coloured concrete create a composition that harmoniously complements the valley landscape.
