The historical connection via Moor Lane in the northeast of Upminster was cut off almost a hundred years ago by the A127 carriageway. The proposed bridge restores this connection and reconnects recreational areas on each side of A127 for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians. The bridge design draws inspiration from the natural setting on both sides of the carriageway and aims to create a connection that is a natural extension of the existing paths in the area.

The clean cut through the landscape and woodlands done almost 100 years ago, to make space for a carriageway, created this green canyon, almost like a small valley – surrounded by tall vegetation on both sides. The bridge structure springs up from the two green volumes and elegantly utilises the full height of the space created by the carriageway. The geometry of the two arches works very well in this setting. The peak of the largest arch almost reaches the height of the tallest trees in the area.
